First Day of My Holiday

The first day of my holiday is full of sadness. That day, I thought that it would be a wonderful day and I would have a holiday that can enjoy myself, but there are one thing that change my mind. Early in the morning, I was woke up by a loud and sharp screaming from my sister's room. I was annoyed by her voice, just a minute before I wanted to ask her keep quite. She was wispering to me, with tears rolling down her face, " Grandfather... Pass away.. Yesterday night." For a moment, my mind goes blind, I totally cannot feel anything. I does not know that my face is wet and tears are so cold. For a sudden, I looked out of the window, staring at the sky, wondering why must "they" bring my grandfather away from me. My house were covered with sadness, that is so quite that I can heard the sound of my phone vibrating on my soft bed. I was very sure that someone was asking me out, while, I really did not know how to reject them, so I choose to escape from what is happening, forcing myself to think that my grandfather is still alive. It was very silly, but it is the only way that can make me feel better. My mum was out for meeting with her lawyer, once she receive the news, she rush home and book an aeroplane ticket online. This is the first time that I saw my mum so anxious, in half an hours time, she packed her largage and took a taxi to the airpot. My brother sented my mum and and sister to there, so I was alone at home. There is something goes around in my mind, LIFE IS SHORT!

Career: hotel manager

Our government has strongly been encouraging us to join in the tourism industry. Singapore, being a country that has no agriculture and natural resources to boast of, can only rely on services-oriented industries. One of these is the booming tourism. One important aspect of tourism is hotel management. This is the job that I am interested in and intend to build a career on it. I love to interact with people from all walks of life and from all over the world. All tourists, regardless whether they are locals or foreigners, will love to have a good, cosy, conducive, friendly and efficiently-managed place to stay. My responsibilities are to ensure that they have a pleasant and safe stay here, in Singapore. Security, cleanliness, good food including the chance to taste our local exotic cuisines, entertainment, fast and friendly services are top priorities. Their safety is of utmost importance too. As a manager, this is not only to safeguard tourists but also our own employees working in the hotel. My job will include that only people with the right attitude and capabilities would be recruited in the hotel under my management. As terrorism is on the rise, no chances can be taken. Security has to be tight even to the extend of bringing some inconveniences to the occupants but I believe they will appreciate it more than anything else. The person who intends to go into hotel management must possess several pre-requisites. He must have an eye for details - such as guests moving in and out, not only must they be greeted, they must also be screened politely to ensure safety for all occupants. In addition, overall cleanliness must be checked thoroughly and observed at all times, going into details that every room, every corner of the hotel must be clean and hygienic. Food served must be fresh and kitchen must check upon too. Concierge must do a good job in ensuring that all luggages are sent promptly and accurately to the customers. Also, any requests made by customers, as long as they are reasonable, should be promptly seen too. Should unreasonable requests be made, they should refer to their immediate to me, the manager, for advice. Hotel management is booming in Singapore. This year we are awarded the prestigious right to host the Formula One Night Car Race. In the year 2010, we are hosting another world renowned event - the Youth Olympic Games. In years to come, Singapore will be filled with tourists as our Integrated Resorts will go into full operations. On top of it, other big events will continuously be held in Singapore. With this great influx of tourists, hotels will be in ever great demands. Thus, this career has unpredictable great prospects, of course with unseen challenges lying ahead but will be compensated with a good salary. Hotel management is global. Thus, if I am equipped with the right skills and attitudes towards this career, sky is the limit for my career. Retrenchment in hotel management is uncommon. It reduces chances of retrenchment greatly.I have decided to embark onto this job. Taking a course that leads to a degree in hotel management is inevitable. I must constantly keep my abreast of the latest news around the world, any big events that Singapore is going to host should I be working here. On top constant upgrading of me is mandatory, thus I have to take course to upgrade myself. Other than the academic aspect, I have to train my character - to be friendly, to have an eye for details and to be hardworking. In addition, I must equip myself with the ability to speak different foreign languages. Tourists from all over the world will come to Singapore, a cosmopolitan city, for leisure or for businesses. Thus to be able to communicate with them in their respective different official language will gain their confidence and they will look forward to come back to Singapore again. Furthermore, they will definitely want to check into the hotel that I am managing because they know I can communicate with them giving them a feeling that they are at home.

Discuss Chong Boon Sec Sch Rules

Rules are necessary to maintain order and discipline, regardless of whether it is on a nation level, school level or home level. In this essay, I will discuss rules on school level - my own school, Chong Boon Sec Sch.Our school rules include no smoking in and around school compound, no using of vulgar language, no violence is tolerated, proper school attire must be adhered to at all times, respect for teachers and fellow students must be practised at all times too and punctuality is to be observed. No smoking in and around school compound - this is a rule that helps us not only is school but also in our lives. We know the harm that smoking causes. If we do not have a healthy body, how are we going to face the challenges in life? No using of vulgar language - this leads to self-cultivation, not only on an individual level, but on a national level too. Vulgar language will only debase a person's character and what will our society be like? We will be looked upon as hooligans. In future, when we, ourselves, become parents, the last thing we want is our children picking up such vile habit. On a national level, how can we compete ourselves against other countries to attract investments from overseas if we are so uncultured, simply uncouth.Violence - is a definite no in school. This will teach us that violence is not and should not be a solution to problems. Bullies should not be tolerated and should be duly punished. We will grow up to be adults soon, if everyone resorts to violence, the society and country will be in complete chaos. Respect for teachers and fellow students will mould our character. We all know that to gain respect, we must learn to respect others first. A respectful and courteous society is a big plus point for our country and is even a bigger plus point for ourselves. Wherever we may be, it is never a lost to be respectful and courteous. Punctuality is another aspect. Whether it is just going to school, handing up projects or eventually to our working life, punctuality is one element that will gain others' respect or despise. How can we expect others to entrust important missions if we cannot do simple things like keeping punctuality.Although many students abhor school rules, let us face the facts that they are for our own good. If we have good self-discipline, we will not feel that we are "tortured" by the school rules. If we do feel "tortured", then it is time that we should make improvements.

CHINESE NEW YEAR

you ask a Chinese which is the most joyous occasion, the answer will unanimously be Chinese NewYear. How did Chinese New Year come about? Let's take a look from a general viewpoint and from a Singaporean's viewpoint.Generally, Chinese New Year refers to the beginning of the Lunar Calendar. This occasion is always celebrated with lion dances, dragon dances, great delicacies, new clothings and shoes for all ages - as long as you are a Chinese. It starts with a reunion dinner on the Chinese New Year's Eve. Regardless whether they are at home or whether they are working abroad, all will make an effort to be home to enjoy the reunion dinner. It is simply a scrumptuous dinner filled with delicacies. Veals of laughter can be heard endlessly. On New Year day itself, fire crackers are lit and every household will prepare "ang pows" to be given to the singles and children, not forgetting the elderly too. "Red" is the colour that is in vogue. This relates to a myth that long time ago, in China, there was an animal called "nian". It eats up people and all villagers are afraid of it. However, they realize that it was frighten of red colour and loud sounds produced by gongs and drums. All the villagers gathered together and played loud music, with everyone wearing red and every household having a piece of red cloth to hang on their doors. It worked and the monster left in fear, never to return again. Thus, they mark that as the beginning of a new year with continuous playing of fire-crackers. This tradition has been passed down till today. In Singapore, unlike China and Taiwan, we celebrate this occasion much subtly. Usually we will have reunion dinner, getting "ang pows" during the first fifteen days. However, our official public holidays is our two days, unlike in China, it lasts for two weeks. Chinese New Year, indeed, is a time for everyone to get together. A happy occasion it is, but being a multi-racial country, the atmosphere is not as delightful as in other Chinese-dominated countries, for example, China and Taiwan. In addition, playing fire-crackers is banned in Singapore. We can only gain the Chinese New Year's joyous feeling from the frequent lion dancing and the Chingay Procession.Chinese New Year - a traditional joyous occasion, can also be a time for us to invite our other races friends to join us in the celebration joy. It can be a way to enhance our bonds and strengthen our relationships because they can get to know our tradition better.

SINGAPORE FLYER =D ROCKS

On the 7th of March, our school secondary 3 students all went to the Singapore Flyer. On the way we went there, I felt very excited because this is the first time I take the Singapore flyer. I also felt a bit scared because I scared that it is too high for me. I was wondering how big are the Singapore Flyer and what I can see when I reaches the maximum point of the flyer. I was expecting to see the Malaysia and also our school and many other buildings.

After half an hour, we reached the Singapore flyer. It is out of my expectation. I expect it to be as big as some mall or hub. Its size can be double of some small shopping mall. The first floor does not have any air conditioner while there are still very cool because there is a small rain forest. The plants take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen. It also keeps the air to be fresh.

After sometime, my teacher brings us to board the flyer. It is about 30 metre cube. Every capsule can contain a maximum number of 28 people. As the capsule was moving up. I could be able to see almost the whole Singapore, but I really cannot find my school. I was a bit disappointed but at least I could meet another expectation, which was that I could see Malaysia. The most excited part was that when we reached the maximum point of the Flyer. I could almost feel the sky.

As the capsule started to move down. We saw an aeroplane fly over. It seems so near to us that I had a feeling of touching it. I had more than enough time to view the landscape. We still took photo in the capsule. There are also a few classmates who scared of high. So we accompany them.

I think this trip is really fun and memorable. I hoped I can go up again, I hoped next time I can go up with my love ones. I will ask my friends to join me. I want to share my joys with every single friend.

Is technology a threat or a promise?

Is technology a threat or a promise? Technology is a threat and also a promise. Many countries have not enough space to generate technology. So they do deforestation in order to get more space for them go make factories or science labs to generate new technology. As they doing deforestation, there are lesser plants to take in carbon dioxide. So there is more carbon dioxide enter the atmosphere, and it causes climate change. Many countries suffering because of climate change. Their temperature becomes unstable.
Technology also can be a promise. With technology, there might be a way to control the climate change. Even we cannot totally solve it but we can at least control it so we have more time to solve the climate change or global warming problem. Technology also helps us in many ways. In the past, it needs more than one week to pass a short massage between counties. While now with handphone, people can pass any massage with in one minute.

Is internet cause more harm than good?

Technology has been improved as time passed. Nowadays, more and more technologies have become part of our life. Internet is one of them. It is something that almost everyone knows, and almost every family has it. It is no longer something people “wants”, it is something that people “needs”. There are many people use internet to help them in their work, study, even business. With just a few steps, they can get information which they need within a few second or minutes. Child can also use it to do project or relax them by playing computer games. Internet can be both good and also bad. It depends on how we use it. I feel that internet will bring more good than harm to us.

In the past, if a student sick, he may just lost his lesson, as not all teachers are free to give them extra lesson or tuition. Nowadays, students’ life getting more and more stressful, they cannot afford to lost any of their lesson. Of course students will still sick, and teachers seem even more busy than the past, so how are them going to catch up with their work? Internet helps them to solve this problem. Teacher can sent some homework or notes thought internet to student who is sick. It may not be very efficient but at least it helps.

Internet can cause harm to people also. If you use it for wrong purposes, you will get harm. Almost every student is very stress. Many of the students like to play computer games in order to release their stress. It is all right to play internet games, but if the student is addicted to the game. It may just ruin his whole life. Some student may think that game is their career and they will focus more on their game than in their study. Not only student, anyone can let internet turn them into astray if they does not control it properly.

Internet is something necessary for people. In my point of view, internet is doing more good than harm to people. It helps people to save their time and they can work more efficiently. As long as we learn to control and make use of it properly, it will be a great helper to us.
